FIFA World Cup 2026: CIMESA contributed to the construction of the Azteca Stadium in Mexico

CIMESA teams took part in the renovation of the retaining wall system of the Azteca Stadium, now called Banorte Stadium, where Mexico will host South Africa for the opening match of the competition this Thursday, June 11.

In total, 213 meters of front wall and 60 meters of lateral walls were built in the “Lower east bowl” area. The construction techniques used included micropile walls, shotcrete, and active anchors.

These works were essential to the stadium’s new design, as they improve its infrastructure and strengthen the stability of its facilities.

This iconic stadium is the only one to have hosted two FIFA World Cup finals, in 1970 and 1986.

Congratulations to the CIMESA teams who contributed to this project, and may the best team win!
