Soletanche Bachy France brings the ForSHORE brand to life with the modernization of the Richelieu Quay in Sète!
To ensure the optimal operation of its new dredger, the Occitanie Region selected Richelieu Quay in Sète and entrusted the project to Soletanche Bachy France. This project is a perfect example of Soletanche Bachy’s maritime and port expertise, delivered under the ForSHORE brand.
Modernization of Richelieu Quay in Sète: a strategic project to accommodate the Hydromer
As part of its dredging fleet renewal, the Occitanie Region commissioned the Hydromer, a new-generation hybrid dredger. This 70-meter vessel, capable of carrying up to 1,500 m³ of sediment, meets modern environmental standards and the growing dredging needs of the region’s ports.
To operate efficiently, the dredger required a quay adapted to its size. Richelieu Quay, located in the heart of Sète, was selected for a complete overhaul.
The contract for the reconstruction of a 60-meter section of Richelieu Quay was awarded to a consortium comprising BTMF (lead, 60%) and Soletanche Bachy (40%), with the Occitanie Region acting as both client and project manager.

The scope of work included:
- Demolition of the existing quay using cutting techniques
- Installation of a combined wall (steel sections + sheet piles)
- Backfilling behind the quay
- Construction of a reinforced concrete capping beam
- Installation of port equipment: bollards, fenders, ladders
- Road and utility works: water, electricity, compressed air, fire systems, etc.
Heavy maritime equipment for a high-precision project
A key feature of this project: several critical phases were carried out from the sea, using a 30-meter barge specially equipped for the task, including:
- A 60-ton crane
- A piling hammer and vibrodriver for wall installation
The project is now complete. A needle formwork was used to match the shape of the wall on the sea side, making work on the beam drop easier.
Congratulations to the teams!
