Rodio Swissboring Successfully Completes the Construction of CAF’s Regional Office in Panama
After more than a year of work, Rodio Swissboring has successfully completed the construction of the regional office for the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) in Panama. With the deployment of BIM methodology during its design and the use of low-carbon concrete and recycled steel, this project is a fine example of Soletanche Bachy’s environmental commitment.
A Project of Great Magnitude
The project included the execution of a secant pile wall, excavation, installation of micropiles, active anchors, and concrete civil works up to street level.
Designed using the BIM methodology and achieving LEED certification, this building aligns with the best international practices in energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Scope of Work
During the execution of the project, Rodio Swissboring’s teams carried out:
- 220 primary and 220 secondary secant piles for ground stabilization.
- 330 micropiles, each 8.5 meters long, for structural reinforcement.
- 124 active anchors, totaling 2,240 linear meters.
- Construction of basements covering a total area of 11,840 m², distributed over four levels of 2,960 m² each.
Additionally, static load tests were conducted on micropiles using cutting-edge technology, such as transducers and vibrating wire sensors, ensuring precision and reliability in the structural design.
A Model of Sustainable Construction
From its inception, the CAF project in Panama has set a benchmark for sustainable practices. Through meticulous planning and on-site commitment, Rodio Swissboring significantly reduced CO₂ emissions by using recycled steel and low-carbon concrete.
Innovative measures were also implemented to minimize environmental impact, such as repurposing excess concrete for security barriers and recycling water used on-site.
CAF’s new regional headquarters in Panama not only represents an advancement in engineering and sustainability but is also designed to foster social interaction, with its open and accessible public areas.
