Soletanche Bachy France carries out modification work at Kennedy metro station in Rennes
AXELERE is the name of the consortium formed by Demathieu Bard and Soletanche Bachy France, which has been awarded the contract to upgrade Kennedy station in order to increase the capacity of line A of Rennes’ automatic metro system.
With the steady growth in metro ridership, the city of Rennes has decided to increase the frequency of trains on line A at peak times, with the aim of carrying 9,300 people per hour per direction (compared with 7,500 today).
In concrete terms, this involves creating a new platform and a rear station of approximately 200 metres.

Soletanche Bachy France‘s programme includes the construction of almost 650 m of micro-Berlin wall, partly inside an existing car park and partly in the right-of-way of the traffic lanes closed for the occasion.
The teams will be faced with a number of challenges, such as passing under a 13-storey residence, interfacing with (deactivated) anchors in an adjacent park-and-ride facility, and underpinning existing structures, all while creating as little nuisance as possible for local residents.
The preparation period began on 6 January 2025 and will last 3 months. The micro-Berlin work will take place from April to December and will involve up to 4 drilling rigs simultaneously.
