Project Description

Soletanche Bachy works with its customers to build airports and air transport infrastructures that facilitate people’s journeys.

We carry out all geotechnical and special foundations works for airport projects. Soletanche Bachy mobilizes all its expertise and its vast portfolio of soil technologies to build terminals, airport runways, transport and connecting structures, tunnels and service facilities.

Processes and equipment best suited to airport operations

For the 3rd runway project at Hong Kong airport, which was reclaimed from the sea, we developed and built CSM barrettes to adapt to the project’s environmental constraints:

  • Impossible to use the dredge-and-fill method, which would have re-suspended the sometimes polluted marine deposits in the soil.
  • Low footprint machine with remote powerpack for installation on a barge.
  • Low headroom equipment to avoid disrupting air traffic.

We improved the existing underwater soil and laid the foundations for a new runway, while limiting the impact on the environment, thanks to the Geomix® process. This was an extraordinary project, as it was the largest Deep Soil Mixing project ever carried out in the world (including 700 piles up to 3.50m in diameter and 90m deep).

 

In Mexico, our local subsidiary Cimesa completed the expansion of Puerto Vallarta international airport, building 167 barrettes and piles for the foundations of the new 62,000m2 terminal. This is a virtuous project, as it includes environmental measures:

  • The installation of solar panels for the building’s energy autonomy,
  • Installation of a rainwater harvesting system on the roof of the building.
