Acquisition of the Phase III contract in Port 2000, Le Havre – Berths 11 and 12

Nearly 10 years after having built the first berths in Port 2000, Soletanche Bachy returned to the Port of Le Havre. Our French subsidiary acquired Phase III for the construction of two new berths. To win this contract, the teams proposed a technical variant that made all the difference.

On Monday 25 November 2019, our France Nord branch signed the Port 2000 Phase III contract for the construction of berths 11 and 12. These two berths extend the 3,500 metres occupied by the first ten berths that were constructed by Soletanche Bachy during the first two phases of the project in the 2000s.

The new project covers the design and build of two 350-metre berths for container ships of up to 17 metres draught.

The contract also includes the construction of a closing quay 111 m, the associated dredging, anti-scour protection, two 360-tonne mooring dolphins West of the new berths, and the development of 47 hectares of platforms.

Soletanche Bachy France was awarded with this variant solution by the owner and engineer the Grand Port Maritime du Havre (GPMH) as leader of a consortium that includes Atlantique Dragages (Boskalis subsidiary) for dredging, and Bouygues TP Régions France for the civil engineering aspects.

The main work to be carried out by Soletanche Bachy France will be:

  • preliminary pyrotechnic detection and decontamination, related to the quay and the deconstruction of the dike
  • slurry wall,
  • diaphragm wall,
  • pumping shafts to dry out the 700,000 m3 excavation for tie-rods installation
  • installation of quay equipment (fenders, bollards and ladders)
  • more than 2,000,000 m3 of excavation related to the quay and the platform
  • 1,000 tonnes of sheet piles and 1,092 passive tie rods, in two layers, for the anchor wall
  • deconstruction of the dyke and its basement
  • reprofiling and ecological reinforcement of the spike
  • nearly 40,000 m² / 20,000 m3 of anti-scour protection using geotextile mattress injected with cement mortar, and precast concrete slabs
  • two dolphins with 6 driven piles each.

The team is already hard at work preparing the site for the start of the construction phase in April 2020.

This new project confirms Soletanche Bachy’s strength in port infrastructure. A unique expertise now brought together under the ForSHORE brand, which offers a complete accompaniment to maritime project holders: financing, design, build and upgrade and maintenance.
