Brady teams build a barge ramp in Cairns, Australia!<\/h1><\/div><\/div>Brady Marine & Civil has been selected by the local Port Authority of Cairns, on the tropical coast of the Great Barrier Reef (northeast Australia), to deliver a barge ramp construction project. Brady\u2019s teams implemented numerous actions to reduce the project\u2019s carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<\/div>
<\/div>Works completed<\/h2><\/div>This construct-only contract covered a wide range of activities:<\/p>\n
\n- Excavation near a waterway and backfilling<\/li>\n
- Precast concrete works and in-situ concrete<\/li>\n
- Installation of 2.1-metre diameter monopiles<\/li>\n
- Marine dredging and rock revetment re-profiling<\/li>\n
- Off-site steel fabrication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\nAll works were self-performed by Brady, with equipment rented as required.<\/p>\n<\/div>

This innovation enabled:
\n\u2022 Reduction of material costs and embodied carbon emissions
\n\u2022 Prefabrication of pile heads, limiting the duration of in-water works
\n\u2022 Improved compatibility with construction equipment<\/p>\n

The three monopiles were installed using carefully planned lifts adapted to the capacity of both crane and barge.<\/p>\n
The pile heads, prefabricated on site, were then lifted and welded into position, eliminating any concrete works above water.<\/p>\n
The Maeve Anne also served as the floating platform for marine dredging: around 1,000 m\u00b3 of potentially acid sulfate sediments were removed and disposed of offsite.<\/p>\n
The quay fenders and mooring equipment were also installed from the barge.<\/p>\n
Despite dense reinforcement, a steep slope, and proximity to water, the team delivered a robust ramp that meets Brady\u2019s standards.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\n\u2022 Use of electric and hybrid vehicles charged offsite<\/p>\n
