ForSHORE by Rodio Kronsa: Construction of the foundations for a cruise terminal in the Canary Islands

Rodio Kronsa, in collaboration with SATOCAN, has completed the foundations for the new cruise terminal at the Santa Catalina quay in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands. The project owner is Global Ports Canary Islands, S.L.

The quay area covers approximately 8,000 m² and will be used to accommodate a two-story building with 14,000 m² of space for the cruise passenger terminal. This will include retail and restaurant areas as well as three boarding bridges, enabling up to four cruise ships to be served simultaneously, while ensuring an efficient and comfortable flow for passengers.

Project challenges

Working in an island environment involves major logistical challenges due to the remoteness and the need for special transport. This requires rigorous planning and constant anticipation of needs in order to guarantee the quality of our products and impeccable customer service, always providing the most appropriate technical solution.

Particular attention was paid to cement grout consumption due to tidal variations, which are typical of maritime works. This required strict control of the injection process in order to optimize the use of available resources and guarantee the quality of execution.

The solution

The project included several areas with distinct geotechnical conditions, requiring tailored solutions to ensure the stability and safety of the structure:

Rodio Kronsa’s technical department studied the initial project and proposed a mixed solution combining prefabricated piles and micropiles, thus optimizing costs and deadlines.
