Expansion of Puerto Vallarta International Airport (Jalisco, Mexico)

The Puerto Vallarta International Airport expansion is part of a major investment programme designed to increase its operational capacity and improve the quality of its facilities. This environmentally-friendly airport project includes energy and water efficiency measures…

Cimesa has been appointed by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) to construct the deep foundations for the building. The project has been designed by architecture firm LBR&A.

The project involves building a new 62,000m² terminal spread over four levels. The terminal will eventually be entirely powered by solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system will be installed on the building’s roof.

The foundations are set on 167 bars and piles of varying thicknesses, driven to a depth of 48m. The work was carried out in two rotating shifts in order to cover six working days per week. Two KS cranes and a traditional drop hammer were used to rapidly install 20,000m3 of concrete and 3,200 tonnes of steel.

Despite harsh weather conditions, including blistering heat and cyclonic winds, the works were completed in October 2022, allowing Cimesa once again to demonstrate its experience and expertise in its core business.

The construction is expected to be fully completed in 2024.
