here are nine stations on new 32 km railway line serving the New Territories of Western Hong Kong. Tsuen Wan station is currently under construction in a zone reclaimed very recently from the sea.
The overall length of 1,000 m is made up of 400 m of station and two approach tunnels measuring 300 m each.
The civil works are being carried out within diaphragm walls allowing excavation to a depth of 20 m. For the station section the walls are incorporated as part of the permanent structure. For the approach tunnels they have a temporary role only.
Within the station box, a series of large diameter piles with plunged columns provide the foundations for the different levels of the station structure as well as for future property developments.
Quantities :
56,000 m2 of diaphragm wall with a thickness of 800 mm to 1,500 mm (an average of 30 m deep).
26 barrettes of variable length.
85 piles Ø 2,500 mm to 3,000 mm
(an average 40 m deep).
44 micropiles Ø 610 mm.
The construction commenced in February 2000. The final sections will be completed in April 2001 after diversion of services.
