March 23, 2001 - Bachy Soletanche Hong Kong,Tsuen Wan Station (West rail)

There are nine stations on new 32 km railway line serving the New Territories of Western Hong Kong. Tsuen Wan station is currently under construction in a zone reclaimed very recently from the sea.

The overall length of 1,000 m is made up of 400 m of station and two approach tunnels measuring 300 m each.

The civil works are being carried out within diaphragm walls allowing excavation to a depth of 20 m. For the station section the walls are incorporated as part of the permanent structure. For the approach tunnels they have a temporary role only.

Within the station box, a series of large diameter piles with plunged columns provide the foundations for the different levels of the station structure as well as for future property developments.

    Quantities :

    • 56,000 m2 of diaphragm wall with a thickness of 800 mm to 1,500 mm (an average of 30 m deep).
    • 26 barrettes of variable length.
    • 85 piles Ø 2,500 mm to 3,000 mm
      (an average 40 m deep).
    • 44 micropiles Ø 610 mm.

The construction commenced in February 2000. The final sections will be completed in April 2001 after diversion of services.
